Re-assessment of my hobby.

Since full time employment, it's been increasingly difficult to do much in the way of video editing. I have lots of ideas but no time. This, combined with various projects, has got me into a bit of an editing rut recently.

I need to throw off some baggage and make a few sacrifices.

Koopi's video (which everyone on my friends list is talking about after I plugged it - and rightly so) reminded me of myself last year. Much like him, I'd spent a lot of the winter break editing, burned myself out and then persevered at Easter to get SRV done. Both videos had a clear vision and only needed time to implement.... but it's fun - that's what I want out of amv editing.

Nowadays I really don’t have as much time for all that, although I'd really like to do something with all the ideas floating around in my head.... but things are getting in the way.

DDDR... I hate to admit it but I'm really regretting saying I'd do Macho Duck. If I was in the same position that I was in when it was first announced then sure it probably wouldn't be a problem but my life has changed and it's taking up every precious second that I really want to spending on getting these ideas out of my head. Macho Duck is a chain around my neck because I know that I can't achieve what it needs to make it a good video and I hate the idea of making something crap just for the sake of it.... and knowing that crap will be more difficult than a whole number of good videos I could be making now just adds insult to injury.

MiniVid Project - yeah, I bet you wondered what happened to that. Well, it's been forming for a while and there are plenty of videos. I don’t know if there's enough for the compilation that I originally wanted but there's certainly enough for a panel piece on experimentalism and freedom in amvs, if I ever get a panel (other than AX).... but again, I've pretty much failed in being organised with just too much on my plate.

So it's all a big mess really.... but I really really want to edit some videos... some of MY videos. I feel like the thing I did as an enjoyable pastime has been turned into a 2nd job because of all these video that I'd actually rather not do. It's very irresponsible, I know - and I said I'd help out with dddr etc... but I can't help having these selfish thoughts that I'd like everything else to just disappear so I can lock myself up and make some good videos again.

I don't know if I'm going to throw in the DDDR towel, so to speak.... I need to speak to nate about things... but damn. Just.. damn.

Yeah, sorry about that. It was just a rant.... it's frustrating having a great amv idea and knowing that I wont be able to make it for the con I'm going to.

I'd love to have one of my new amv ideas done for jacon, but it's not really possible.

not at all - I certainly didn't think it would be your sort of video.

I just used it as an example of the effort one can take to get a video to fit the idea you have of it... and how I've missed not being able to do that recently be being far far far too busy.

I've found recently worrying about con's and debut's of videos has been causing me grief. I kind of wish I could return to the olden days where I just did videos ans posted them on the net ... I could still do that but times have changed and there is something to be said for the experience of your stuff showing at cons ...

You're right - it's not. Pretty for the sake of pretty and bugger all else. ^^ Point taken though. I'm guessing that weekends aren't as free as they ought to be, either...?
