Thanks so much for this fabulous and detailed guide! I always like to check comments on tutorials to see if there is feedback or any issues, and to see how recently someone commented (so I can estimate if the process is still the same), so today I'm the person saying "I set this up today and it worked".
My notes (on setting up Backblaze, didn't use a CDN):
To create a bucket, I had to add a mobile phone number and verify it via text (no audio option).
There are more options when you create a bucket (default encyption and object lock). I erred on the side of no encryption and disabled object lock.
Since I'm doing this for podfic, I changed the CORS settings to "Share everything in this bucket with one origin: https://archiveofourown.org" and tested it with the < audio > tag on Ao3; success!
There's another option in the CORS settings, "Apply CORS rules to the following APIs:". I selected "both". (The other two options are "B2 Native API" and "S3 Compatible API".)
May 31, 2022 update: I have now used this same process to host a couple of fanvids embedded on ao3 using the < video > tag. I also previously embedded audio on Dreamwidth with the < audio > tag; I used a separate bucket so I could set a different single origin for the CORS settings.
