JACON pimpage
May. 18th, 2004 01:35 amFor those of you who can't wait for Jacon, here's something else to get excited about. Vlad Pohnert (
vgp) and I will be presenting two anime panels at the convention. They're going to be great so you are all welcome and encouraged to attend.
Here's a little idea of what you can look forward to:
The Fairy Tales of Hayao Miyazaki (4-6 PM on Friday)
The "Fairy Tales" panel is an enlightening and inspirational look at the inheritance, use and development of Fairy Tale symbolism and narrative in the works of the famous Animator and Director Hayao Miyazaki. The panel will trace the progression of these influences and themes from the Auteur's early years animating for the Toei corporation, through to creating Studio Ghibli and establishing a tradition of Japanese animation modeled upon his own adaptation of the Fairy Tale genre. The panel will also offer a fascinating insight into the history of Fairy Tales, both western and Japanese, and how these disparate elements have influenced Miyazaki over the years. The panel is intended to be informative, educational and nostalgic as it shows the development of childhood fantasies both in western and Japanese culture.
Retro Cool: Pop culture in 70s and 80s Anime. (1-3 PM on Sunday)
The retro cool panel is a fun, upbeat and nostalgic celebration of fashions, genres, icons and influences in 70s and 80s anime. The panel will demonstrate the wonder of such varied cultural facets as the discovery of disco and the genesis of the giant robot. All of the themes presented in the panel will also be brought up to date with a look at how the anime of today represents, remakes and revisits these cultural phenomena. This panel is intended to be entertaining with plenty of humor yet at the same time informative, nostalgic and cool.
Don't miss them :)
