That Saikano video.

absolutedestinyI finally realised why, of all my videos, the only one I'm not happy with is my saikano video.
My videos to date have been (with comments):
Accelanation - The only thing I dont like about this video is the name, which I chose because amv.org recommended people to not use the song title as the video title. Bah, says mr "material girl".
Kare Kano, Monkey Wrench - I still find this one amusing despite the hideous technical elements and inconsistent timing.
Instant Music Video (Blues Driven Naota) - I even like the crappy lip synch. The mood is right and that's all that matters.
With One Accord in a Flash - special in many ways.
Shameless Rock Video - It actually amazes *me* that I made this video.
Gratuitous Porn Video - pure slapstick fun.
Miyazawa Rap - anyone who doesnt like this video can shove it :P
DDR Project 2nd Mix Track 05: Boys - yup I even dont hate this one. It was worth it to kill muraki.
Arima Shinjikun - I hope Anno likes it.
That Other Girl - nobody likes this video except me. Oh well, like I care.
A God-awful Small Affair - When I first made it I thought it was mediocre. I now think it's great, if only for the opening. I knew it was a good idea :)
Memories of Love and Conflict - meh.
See, that last one... I know it's not the best video it could be. It's certainly not the best I could imagine for that Jeff Buckley song, and it's certainly not the best I could imagine for that anime. The problem is, and this is the reason why I'm not fond of the video, is that despite knowing it's not meeting its potential, I dont know how to fix it.
I can't point at a part of the video and say "there - that part doesnt work, it's crap". None of it really satisfies and falls short of both sources.
This is the reason why it's the only video of mine that I dont really like.

Date: 2003-06-24 04:31 pm (UTC)Yup, that's exactly how I feel about one of my videos. Given, it's "edited" better than my earlier ones, but those are still special to me and I can write/think of little, positive comments like yours above.
I spent an entire two weeks tweaking things and changing them in hopes that it might "fix" it, but to no avail. Given, I don't know how yours started out, but this was my first video I did purely to learn things and to try something new (as opposed to a vision in my head so strong that I had to see if I could recreate it (and how accurately)...which are my other videos).
So, I guess to a degree, I know what it is, but it's not specific like a scene, it's the entire foundation and motivation behind it.
Oh well...you can't win 'em all right? :(
