absolutedestinyI'm certain Hideaki Anno makes movies just for me.
OK, he quite blatantly makes them for himself... but still...
The red!!!!!!!!! For those who dont know, I love the use of red in movies. In this movie, it's like David Lynch red room x100... and the set design. Just awesome... he has this weird fixation with symmetry in all sorts of bizzare ways and.. I just love it. It was all the best visual bits from Love and Pop but even better.
oh another thing.... the scalectrix set I used to have as a kid was a prominent feature in this movie too!
As for the film itself, well... it's the accumulation of everything you've ever recognised as Anno - especially in his late days of animation. This movie has quite obvious biographical elements and it does put onto film practically every psychological element that has ever graced his work. He even got the exact same chairs used in eva for a vital scene at the end. I'm almost tempted to quote parts of the script, but it would mean scanning back through to find them. Suffice to say it's really interesting for any Anno fan :)
I think as a dramatic work it doesn't have much of a punch in conclusion... but I really enjoyed watching it.
