"The cantina shootout between Han Solo and the green-snouted bounty hunter Greedo is virtually identical, but now it seems their guns fire almost simultaneously."

...and Star Wars fandom erupts again!

oh I like this too:

"Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Christensen, who plays Anakin Skywalker in Episode II: Attack of the Clones and in the upcoming Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, now appears at the end of Jedi as Anakin's spirit."

So the original trilogy now has 4 people playing Anakin! David Prowse doing the walking, James Earl Jones doing the talking, Sebastian Shaw as the talking head and now Hayden "Emo-kid" Christensen appearing as the spirit!

What is it with these bigshot moviemakers that they think they are allowed to alter their artistic work decades after its creation? They fail to realise that these films which have had great international impact are cultural artefacts that need to be preserved, not edited in some 1984/Ministry of Truth change of heart. If it's not Lucas making Han Solo a humanitarian it's Speilberg getting rid of the guns in ET.

You make your bed, you sleep in it.

EDIT: I think people missed the point with my post. In the original, Han shoots and Greedo doesn't, in the 1997 special edition Greedo shoots first but on the new DVDs they apparently shoot at the same time. That was what I was commenting on.......

Didn't Southpark do an episode about this?

Either way, I imagine in HS I'd be angry since I was (am?) a huge star wars fan. Lately they don't excite me as much, but I have a feeling it's due to oversaturation.

BTW your 1984 analogy is teh awesome, but then again that's my favorite book. And yes, this has nothing to do with your post >_>.

Funny- for me it's been because the 'last two' movies have blown, big time...

And that SP episode was great. :)

While I have no real problems with making available 'director's cuts' of movies that include footage that had to be cut for time or other considerations, stuff like the scene with Greedo and the walkie talkies in ET is just stupid. Especially when (in the case of the Star Wars movies) they won't release the original versions anymore.

Oh I got it. In the original, Solo doesn't even flinch.. He just up and shoots.

Well, since they're so insistant on NOT releasing the truth, I insist that everybody get copies of my DVDs, which are themselves LD rips of the Original Trilogy.

They can also be found on Bit Torrent.

I intend to get those eventually, but according to the DCMA of last year -I think-, those are now considered a Dead Media (Being Laserdiscs AND given Lucas' refusal to ever release them again in any new media form, they qualify) and may be 'legally' bootlegged.

Well, I thing since George has so much time on his hands due to a lack of creating anything else, all he does is re-edit the Star Wars Films and re-issues then to supplement his income...

Hmmm.. maybe in the next couple of years Han Solo will be edited out and replaced by some hot female pilot so the series is more politically correct...

There was a South Park episode about that (Free Hat). George Lucas and Steven Spielberg went mad with power and butchered Raiders of the Lost Ark.

"Soon after Free Hat aired, the real Lucas and Spielberg announced that they would not be altering Raiders of the Lost Ark for DVD release (contrary to rumors surrounding it). Stone and Parker later claimed that their episode prevented any alterations from happening when they appeared on a VH1 special, Inside South Park."
