2) Another thing I didn't write down was that director you reccomended to me when we were talking about movies. That stupid review of mine is only about half done, so I don't know when I'll get to 'em, but anything that highly reccomended by you has to be worth checking out. (Loved the David Lynch short you showed during the panel. Lynch is a fav of mine, so much so that I tacked on a piece of Blue Velvet at the front of my Tool video way back when. And the waving cell-phones during the Lain video was pure, unprompted genius of audience participation... kinda creepily apt, really.)

2) Takashi Miike.
Particularly intersting works of his are (in no particular order)
Bird People of China (arty)
Audition (stunning horror - probably good to see first)
Dead or Alive 2 (no need to see the first in the trilogy, they arent related - surprisingly charming yakuza movie about growing up!)
Visitor Q (quickly made but fascinating sick look at familiy disfunction and repair)
Ichi the Killer (based on the manga - blindingly violent but with a really interesting cinema rationale at the end)
Gozu (one of the most incredible movie endings ever... totally surreal freudian oddness)
I also recommended the clever arthouse zombie comedy Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetary Man) if you can find it or you see it on tv.
Oh and there's one other thing. I discovered just now that the VAT guest award slip I was supposed to give you was still in my bag. ><
The award was untitled and went to Sean Thordsen (Wired Knight Productions) for Shinji's Nightmare (Evangelion to Heffalumps and Woozles). Sorry ^^;;

Date: 2004-09-28 04:38 pm (UTC)I'm sorry I didn't work up the courage to apologize for my behavior in person... I just don't know what you would have done. Regardless, what a kick-ass job you did at AWA Pro. Congratulations!
