Yesterday I did that meme where you pick quotes from 25 songs that appear randomly on your winamp list. People did pretty well, with only a handful left unclaimed.

1) "But with a magnifyin glance, I just sorta look her over" Alice Cooper - Be My Lover

Early 70s Alice Cooper is great rock n roll and a lot of it is vastly underappreciated. People forget to look behind the image to find the excellent songwriting in tracks like Ballad of Dwight Fry. Ah well, this one is a fun track with the great line "She asked me why the singer's name was Alice. I said listen baby you really wouldn't understand."

3) "I got the words to a brand new song: how you gonna catch me, when I'm this gone" - Alison Krauss and Union Station - Goodbye Is All We Have

Oddly enough, me having this is not the fault of grungettarocks

7) "Know by the way that you treat your man I can love you, baby, till the night train" - The Rolling Stones - I Just Want To Make Love To You

This album (The Rolling Stones, 1964) is what I usually cite as the reason why the Stones were much better than the Beatles. Face it, if you were teleported back to 1964 and had to choose between "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You" as defining your way of life, which would you choose :)

8) "Gotta new puerto rican score And she doin' it on the floor When the groove rubberbaby's hot I'm givin' it all I got" - Prince - The Jam Of The Year

I knew there were Prince fans on my FL but I guess few have ventured much later than the Batman Soundtrack and Diamonds and Pearls. Emancipation was an album that showed that the man had all the talent that people presumed of Michael Jackson at the time but a million times the diversity. The influence of this album on black music of the time is clear - the sound is very Blakstreet in parts.

9) "Well, the girls are frisky in old ’frisco a pretty little chick wherever you go" - The Ramones - California Sun

Just reading those lyrics and knowing that it's a Ramones track is all you need to know this song, even if you haven't actually heard it :)

22) "sleepin' children better run like the wind out of the lightning dream" - Counting Crowes - Round Here

I'm not posting this... you've all heard it way too many times already.

23) "Someone lights a cigarette while riding in a car; some ol' guy takes a swig and passes back the jar" - The Clash - Somebody Got Murdered

Not the greatest Clash song, but that's randomisation for you.

24) "A song for all the lonely hearts, shattered dreams and broken parts but it feels like sunny days are coming soon" - Ween - Hey There Fancy Pants

This one is entirely bigbigtruck's fault.


So all in all, not bad going. I certainly was impressed that some of these were guessed as I probably wouldn't have been able to pick all these out.
