Vividcon Club Vivid - my premiering vids
Aug. 15th, 2006 08:18 pmIt's been a while since I made these so it's great to get them online after all this time. Here are the two videos I made for this year's Club Vivid.
Vid: Heart of Funkness
Footage: Apocalypse Now
Song: Jungle Boogie by Kool and the Gang
Download here - AbsoluteDestiny-HeartOfFunkness.avi (31mb divx compatible)
This idea for this vid was actually
renenet's. The song was in the club vivid suggested list and she told me I should do it to this movie (which she has not seen I might add). I listened to it and sure enough it could work fine for the opening section but omg when I got to the break down section at the end... that sold it for me.
Things I tried to do in this vid? Well, for one I wanted to make a vid that was all about war equating to male sexual frustration, putting in as many phallus images, ejaculatory explosions and finally spiralling into some tribal, primal hell of fleshy frustrated insane homo-eroticism.... and animal slaughter.
Vid: One Angry Dwarf
Footage: The Incredibles
Song: One Angry Dwarf and Two Hundred Solemn Faces by Ben Folds Five
Download - AbsoluteDestiny-OneAngryDwarf.avi (41.5mb divx compatible)
A no brainer this one. I really liked the Buddy/Syndrome character (despite Syndrome being the most utterly forgettable name ever) and was actually a bit annoyed that they'd created all this sympathy for him by showing the ignored kid growing up to be how he was and yet they didn't resolve ANY of that in the movie. Not that I do in the vid, but I at least wanted to do something that was his POV. So yeah, no brainer.
Enjoy :)
(Incidentally the con dvd version of the latter doesn't play smoothly for some reason. Trust me to get my own vid wrong :P)

Date: 2006-08-15 07:51 pm (UTC)VVC was *awesome* this year! Thanks for all your hard work. (Specifically, I attended vid karaoke and your comedy panel-- both awesome.)
A question: where could an aspiring vidder find the list of suggested songs for Club Vivid dance vids?
no subject
Date: 2006-08-15 11:29 pm (UTC)I'm going to do the list (part of the collection that morgandawn is doing) once I get some head space. I'm still in chicago so it might be once I get back to the UK.

Date: 2006-08-17 04:00 pm (UTC)Actually, I meant the list of suggested songs, the ones that hadn't been vidded yet?

Date: 2006-08-15 09:31 pm (UTC)"One Angry Dwarf" must unfortunately face my anti-Incredibles attitude (Laura smash!), but it's beautifully cut and very clever.

Date: 2006-08-16 01:17 am (UTC)I've not yet seen Apocalypse Now (I know... *shameface*) but I really enjoyed the vid all the same. As always the editing is just intimidatingly perfect. I can imagine it going down a real treat at the dance party. :D
Ah, and I don't believe I've given you feedback on The Gentle Art of Making Enemies, either. There are only so many times I can say perfect before it stops making sense altogether, but I have a limited vocabulary, so you'll have to just bear with me. :D God, I loved that vid, especially on how the fight sequences sped up and slowed down to make every hit land on the beat, that was amazingly done. I just loved the energy of it and, as usual, the song seemed like it was just made for the vid.
Yay!

Date: 2006-08-16 01:28 am (UTC)Thank you ever so much! I have to respond in kind because I really really adored the vids you sent into VVC. I'm so happy that everyone responded so well to Post Blue, I'm seeing it appear all over the place in recs so YAY!
I'm definitely going to keep a close watch for your future projects, I think you have a superb editing style and I love that you are so adventurous.
Thanks ever so much for the feedback - in the next couple of days I'll be posting the rest of my VVC vids (when I get back to the UK).

Date: 2006-08-16 04:36 am (UTC)I'm amazed at your ability to put your vidding mojo to work on source and transform it into something much more appealing than the original. You've ruined Apocalypse Now for me forever, and I'm very grateful. Just thinking about that vid makes me grin. Martin Sheen doing the funky chicken to Jungle Boogie is a thing of joy forever. *g*

Date: 2006-08-16 02:01 pm (UTC)Just started reading the con reports and I noticed several folks recommended your Life on Mars vid even though they didn't know the fandom (like destina).
Is there a link for it?

Date: 2006-08-17 02:37 pm (UTC)Have just watched three PAL DVDs containing all six episodes of 'Takin' Over the Asylum' that had been sent to me during VVC by a kind archivist at BBC Scotland. Totally faboo series. Am burning copies for "Fergus" and can fire off a set for you, too. E-mail me at alvakeelfan @ aol.com with your mailing addy for same.

I had to laugh when I read that description! And uh... yeah, you TOTALLY achieved that! AWESOME vid--it's so brilliantly cut--I can't begin to imagine how much work it took to get the pacing of image with beat so perfect. I loved it. Thank you! It's been a long time since I watched the movie so it really took me back--and this vid has such a feel of needing-to-be-made. Congrats!

Date: 2007-06-06 02:31 am (UTC)vid # 2 this was really awesome. the timing with the music as perfect. also, it really highlighted something i'd never noticed before - syndrome really has all of jason lee's physical affectations and facial expressions.
