It's been a while since I made these so it's great to get them online after all this time. Here are the two videos I made for this year's Club Vivid.

Vid: Heart of Funkness
Footage: Apocalypse Now
Song: Jungle Boogie by Kool and the Gang

Download here - AbsoluteDestiny-HeartOfFunkness.avi (31mb divx compatible)

This idea for this vid was actually [livejournal.com profile] renenet's. The song was in the club vivid suggested list and she told me I should do it to this movie (which she has not seen I might add). I listened to it and sure enough it could work fine for the opening section but omg when I got to the break down section at the end... that sold it for me.

Things I tried to do in this vid? Well, for one I wanted to make a vid that was all about war equating to male sexual frustration, putting in as many phallus images, ejaculatory explosions and finally spiralling into some tribal, primal hell of fleshy frustrated insane homo-eroticism.... and animal slaughter.

Vid: One Angry Dwarf
Footage: The Incredibles
Song: One Angry Dwarf and Two Hundred Solemn Faces by Ben Folds Five

Download - AbsoluteDestiny-OneAngryDwarf.avi (41.5mb divx compatible)

A no brainer this one. I really liked the Buddy/Syndrome character (despite Syndrome being the most utterly forgettable name ever) and was actually a bit annoyed that they'd created all this sympathy for him by showing the ignored kid growing up to be how he was and yet they didn't resolve ANY of that in the movie. Not that I do in the vid, but I at least wanted to do something that was his POV. So yeah, no brainer.

Enjoy :)

(Incidentally the con dvd version of the latter doesn't play smoothly for some reason. Trust me to get my own vid wrong :P)

VVC was *awesome* this year! Thanks for all your hard work. (Specifically, I attended vid karaoke and your comedy panel-- both awesome.)

A question: where could an aspiring vidder find the list of suggested songs for Club Vivid dance vids?

From: [identity profile] absolutedestiny.livejournal.com
Yay! Thank you.

I'm going to do the list (part of the collection that morgandawn is doing) once I get some head space. I'm still in chicago so it might be once I get back to the UK.

Actually, I meant the list of suggested songs, the ones that hadn't been vidded yet?

It should be on the vividcon lj community from sometime in march/april I think.

I dearly love "Heart of Funkness", and on reviewing your goals, I find you met all of them. Is it wrong that I find this vid as funny as it is disturbing? And so danceable! P. giggled gleefully at it when I showed it to him this morning.

"One Angry Dwarf" must unfortunately face my anti-Incredibles attitude (Laura smash!), but it's beautifully cut and very clever.

Thank you! I have issues with The Incredibles too but... well, not enough to ignore them and just make a pretty CV vid.

Loved the comedy panel. Loved both your vids. Still smiling over dancing to Apocalypse Now. The Incredibles vid is beloved by my children which may not have been your target audience...and it plays smoothly on my computer and in one of my DVD players, but not the other. Hit or miss. My F/G vid doesn't play well either. C'est la vie...

It was a joy meeting you in person!

Oh wow! One Angry Dwarf just made my day. It is perfectly done and so hilarious. I'm in such awe of how every one of your vids make it seem like the movie was made especially for the song, or vice versa. And for a character that had very little screentime, too, and there's so much attention to detail... just wow. Ruddy brilliant.

I've not yet seen Apocalypse Now (I know... *shameface*) but I really enjoyed the vid all the same. As always the editing is just intimidatingly perfect. I can imagine it going down a real treat at the dance party. :D

Ah, and I don't believe I've given you feedback on The Gentle Art of Making Enemies, either. There are only so many times I can say perfect before it stops making sense altogether, but I have a limited vocabulary, so you'll have to just bear with me. :D God, I loved that vid, especially on how the fight sequences sped up and slowed down to make every hit land on the beat, that was amazingly done. I just loved the energy of it and, as usual, the song seemed like it was just made for the vid.

Yay!

Yay!

Thank you ever so much! I have to respond in kind because I really really adored the vids you sent into VVC. I'm so happy that everyone responded so well to Post Blue, I'm seeing it appear all over the place in recs so YAY!

I'm definitely going to keep a close watch for your future projects, I think you have a superb editing style and I love that you are so adventurous.

Thanks ever so much for the feedback - in the next couple of days I'll be posting the rest of my VVC vids (when I get back to the UK).

Well, since I already shamelessly fangirled you about Heart of Funkness at the con (sorry about that, but I couldn't help myself; the vid is brilliant), I should also mention I truly loved There Is Too Much Light In This Bar. Your vid made me want to see Life On Mars, which I'd resisted utterly up until that moment. I'm quite terrified that your vid made the source approximately 100 times more interesting than it actually is, but I'm willing to chance it now.

I'm amazed at your ability to put your vidding mojo to work on source and transform it into something much more appealing than the original. You've ruined Apocalypse Now for me forever, and I'm very grateful. Just thinking about that vid makes me grin. Martin Sheen doing the funky chicken to Jungle Boogie is a thing of joy forever. *g*

Thank you so much! It means a lot to me as I'm finally starting to feel comfortable with my live action editing so knowing people are responding so positively is very good to hear.

I should have my other premiering vids up soon - thanks for the fangirling :D

Wandering in....

Just started reading the con reports and I noticed several folks recommended your Life on Mars vid even though they didn't know the fandom (like destina).

Is there a link for it?

There will be soon. I'm still in chicago and I need to encode an online version of the vid which I cant do until I get back home tomorrow. I will x-post to vidding and vividcon, so keep an eye out there :)

Thanks for showing an interest!

Just to say your vid 'One Angry Dwarf' is fantastic. So witty and beautifully edited, it was definitely Syndrome's song and I howled out loud at the end. Not sure I'll let my daughter see it though, as she'll want me to do one and it will only come up seriously short of the mark.

Next I'll check out Heart of Funkness because the combination of 'Apocalypse Now' and Kool and the Gang is too much to pass up.

My love of Heart of Funkness knows no bounds. Well, possibly it knows the boundary between OMGSOWRONG! and OMGSOPERFECT!, but it's grooving up against that line dancing like a mad thing, so, yeah, let's go with "no bounds."

What she said about the OMGSOWRONG and OMGSOPERFECT? That's where I'm at. It blew me away with it's utter wrong-perfectness.

Have just watched three PAL DVDs containing all six episodes of 'Takin' Over the Asylum' that had been sent to me during VVC by a kind archivist at BBC Scotland. Totally faboo series. Am burning copies for "Fergus" and can fire off a set for you, too. E-mail me at alvakeelfan @ aol.com with your mailing addy for same.

Heart of Funkness is one of the most awesome vids I've ever seen: it's clever, funny and creepy all once, three elements rarely combined all at once in vidding.

It's also extremely pretty to look at; one of the best quality vids I've seen. I salute your imagination, talent and skill.

I had to laugh when I read that description! And uh... yeah, you TOTALLY achieved that! AWESOME vid--it's so brilliantly cut--I can't begin to imagine how much work it took to get the pacing of image with beat so perfect. I loved it. Thank you! It's been a long time since I watched the movie so it really took me back--and this vid has such a feel of needing-to-be-made. Congrats!

I just downloaded One Angry Dwarf and really enjoyed it. The honky-tonk beginning really fit with the black and white footage. I liked the way the machine guns and the drum kit fit together at 1:00.

Here via [livejournal.com profile] theforthvine and just loved "One Angry Dwarf". I'm a huge Syndrome apologist myself (mutterandIkindathinkhe'shot) and this video was great because 1) it was exciting and 2) totally on his side. Hee. Great job!

vid # 1 i too have not seen apocalypse now. i really kind of want to after watching that, though. i really liked it.

vid # 2 this was really awesome. the timing with the music as perfect. also, it really highlighted something i'd never noticed before - syndrome really has all of jason lee's physical affectations and facial expressions.

Wow. I might be able to offer some more coherent feedback later, but let me just share my first impression. It went like this:

"Is she joking? There's just no way... huh. That actually kind of works. Man, some nice timing and inter-cutting of those action scenes there. Oh. Oh wow. DAMN. Is she really going to ... she did! This is great! In a really fucked up way!"
