Vividcon 2006 Auction Vid - I Enjoy Being a Girl

Earlier this year, I offered to auction my vidmaking abilities. It was a bitterly fought contest with Jacon almost winning. However, in the final stages of the auction, paraviondeux won out.

When she contacted me, she had some very simple instructions. She gave me a song and said "I generally just want it to be funny, and for the girls to kick ass." Fine by me. I picked the version of the song (the modern revival recording as it had the most interesting instrumentation) and negotiated the cast, deciding upon Sydney Bristow, Starbuck, Veronica Mars, Zoe and Buffy.

To me, this vid was all about strong female roles in modern TV and for that reason Buffy was essential to the mix. The only problem was, I'd not seen any buffy. So after much stressing and binge watching, I finally worked out how the hell I was going to do this vid.

Vidding lots of shows is hard. I'm so bad when I have too much footage. This vid was really really difficult for me. Thankfully, bar a few scenes which still bug me, I think this vid came out really well. I hope you all like it :)

So good! I've been just recently begging for a GIRLS ARE AWESOME vid, and HEY! look! the universe listened and gave me THIS! So thank you!!! I love every single one of the shows you used, and every single one of the women as well. Loved the excellent timing and silliness, the clash between the old fashioned lyrics and the modern (postmodern?!) actions, and the whole thing was beautifully put together. Great stuff!!!

This is brilliant! I missed your panel on comedy vids but you know what--in lieu of that I can study this. (And I had to leave before the auction show, so I'm glad this is online!) I especially enjoyed the continued/parallel motion (I was slow and only really picked up on this toward the end; first viewing, what can I say) and the wonderful use of timing in conjunction with the musical accents. It's a great song; the varied instrumentation and various segments are playful in all the right ways. Yay!

i adored this vid; the timing is spectacular, the clips are perfect, and i adore the whole section that's done to the instrumental break in the center. i've watched this probably a dozen times since i downloaded it last night, and it's going in my lives-on-the-laptop-not-on-the-external-harddrive vid hall of fame, no questions asked. you did a fantastic job with this; it's one of the best cut, best timed vids i've seen in my five years in fandom.

Arghhhhhh. I hate you and your insanely amazing vids because it reduces my ability to feedback down to pretty much zero. I swear I'm not as bad at writing feedback as my comments to you would have you believe. Normally I'm... erm... articulate and... stuff. And can pinpoint moments that I liked. Except I can't with this one (or your vids in general), because I'll just end up going through the whole vid frame-by-frame. So you'll just have to settle for what I've just written. Such is the burden of greatness. :P

(I did manage to pick out one thing that I liked especially - the structure of having each woman have her own segment and it coming together in the end, as opposed to throwing random clips together from the get-go. Which is sort of what I expect from any multi-fandom vid, though in hindsight I shouldn't have expected that from you. Loved that.}

Oh my god, you should have SEEN my face when I finished this vid! PURE GLEE!
