absolutedestinyThere is no way that I can mention all the wonderful people I met at the con. Everything that follows is just what I could recall late last night and is only the tip of the iceberg. In short, I met some great people and had a really good time.
Wednesday
My vividcon socialising started early and ohmygod I'm glad it did. See, I flew out on Wednesday. THANK THE LORD. If I'd flown out on Thursday well, I might not have and would have missed the con. Wow. It really pays to arrive early. I actually woke on Thursday to a text message from my mother asking if I was ok... then I checked the news and all hell had broken loose.
So the plan was.. well there wasn't much of a plan really. I knew where I was staying on the first night and that I was staying in Chicago for a week. I arrived and got a cab to![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
just_eunice's where I met up with sockkpuppett, vagabondage, f1renze, sweetestdrain, merryish, taraljc,, dorinda, renenet.... lots of people. It was great, there were hugs and compliments on haircuts and all sorts. Luminosity gave me Grey Goose!!! yay! We talked and talked and talked and got furred on by just_eunice's cat Spike who is very aptly named. Once people disbursed, I then slept on just_eunice's couch and was stared at by her two cats Spike and Abby. This was somewhat unsettling :)
I liked the apartments I visited and felt somewhat jealous that I'd never be able to afford a similar space in Oxford. Damn price differences.merryish's view is great, btw.
After a few hours sleep I was able to witness what Becca is like without coffee. It's special. I'd picked up some coffee for her at home but it was a little smooth for my taste. Next time I'll try something more bitter. Maybe it would have been a good coffee with milk, but I drink mine like Agent Dale Cooper. Pie optional.
Thursday
Going to the con, checking in, lots of hi and the first night of Outback. I was in a weird mood and ate starters and drank fruity cocktails.sisabet had already been drinking to get over the flying nightmares and as usual sported that delightful slightly rosy smile that suits her so well. Story telling commenced. As always, sockkpuppett held her hand to her chest and made wise statements while drinking not!cosmopolitans. Note for future years - frozen margaritas arent as good as the ones served with ice and in general the margaritas at Outback aren't nearly bitter enough :(
I'm pretty sure, just like every night, this night ended up with people gathering in a room watching vids and talking lots. I think there was some karaoke practice too.
Friday!
Socialising on this particular day was tricky until club vivid as I was really busy with tech... but then CV happened and suddenly there's lots of dance floor antics... and omg some incredible outfits. It gets better every year! I was fairly low-key with my Life on Mars pastiche (though the pants weren't taken up enough boo). Fave outfits?astolat's 'dressing up and dressing down at the same time' outfit, f1renze's wonderful patterned dress, ficbyzee's hat, sweetestdrain's green silky number and pearls combo, dualbunny's Starbuck, sparky elke_tanzer... THE LIST GOES ON! I was the filling in a permetaform and lierdumoa sandwich again, which is always fun. Heck, to make CV more fun it would have to become obscene. Or, you know, more obscene. Good times.
Post-CV was a brief bit of socialising before I was whisked away for tech cleanup :( Duty calls. I really wanted to get drunk one night of the con but every night it always elluded me for one reason or another. Maybe next year? At least I heard the Lewis story... when are you guys writing that up!??! Oh and drunkenf1renze, convinced that it was the baileys that did it not the numerous drinks prior :)
Saturday!
A lot more chilling for me on saturday - eating thai, talking withsockkpuppett. This is in-between all the tech stress :) I missed out on dinner again but f1renze graciously offered me leftover cheese fries which sustained me through the evening... which was important because omg Premieres and omg karaoke! In fact, f1renze pretty much kept me on my feet the whole night as she also bought me a drink in preparation for karaoke! f1renze, you rock!!
Karaoke was a lot of fun and afterwards it was back tosweetestdrain and f1renze's room to watch escapade dvds. I think I might have bowed out early that night after all the exhaustion of the last two days. I do recall squeeing over people's vids and generally telling people how awesome their work was.
Sunday
Lunch was hot dogs and steak fries, followed by meetingsockkpuppett's delightful daughter. Smart, pretty - she has everything going for her. After the on was over, it was time to hit the Outback with sockkpuppett and alvafan. Good steak. More booze. Later, back up to sisabet's room for vid watching and making jokes about christiffany :) OMG like everyone was in that room - sisabet, sockkpuppett, renenet, sdwolfpup, dualbunny, f1renze, sweetestdrain, vagabondage, heresluck, merryish, just_eunice, jackiekjono, elynross, paraviondeux, greensilver, seperis.... the list goes on. Chocolate vodka. Amazing multiplying alchohol. We watched possibly 2 or 3 years worth of vvc premieres (with filtering, of course) including this years again. and auction vids. and just about everything. Next door actually banged on the wall to shut us up at one point. After being out of it for most of the evening, just as everyone was hitting their tiredness threshold, sisabet got her 2nd wave and was all drunken loud. It was great :)
Monday
Morning was pancakes down the street and they were very good. Lots and lots of goodbyes which are always hard. I was really happy on monday - everything had gone well and I'd had a really good time. Many of us retired tojust_eunice's for a little while before people had to fly out. Later that evening I finally met f1renze's fella who was a really nice guy. f1renze, her guy who shall remain anonymous, sweetestdrain, renenet and I went out to a great pizza place in Wicker Park and then to a bar where there was beer and pool playing.. which I suck at currently, which breaks my heart as I used to be really good. I recall spouting out a lot of my theories on life, the universe and everything which was either inspirational or tearfully dull. Well, I had fun.
Tuesday
Yes, still in Chicago. Most of the day was spent obsessively refreshing livejournal for con reports. You all did it too, I know you did. Afternoon was spent withvagabondage, at first watching Rubber's Lover and later going for a walk by the lake. just_eunice slept. Lots. This is a recurring theme. I also discovered the joy that is grubhub. Mostly the idea here was to relax and it was a lovely relaxing day. I needed that little bit of space to unwind.
