Are You An AMV Veteran? Meme by [profile] outlawedprod

001) Pre-date the .org in submitting to the conventions
No, though I did submit to local anime clubs before I knew about the .org
002) Not give a fuck
Yeah
003) Love to make AMVs but just too damn busy
I am pretty damn busy but mostly I've not been watching anime so I've been doing all this movie and TV stuff. Firfly vid next, sorry japanophiles.
004) Paid out the ass for import LDs or had to find someone with import footage
Ish. I did import LDs but I never ended up making any amvs with them. All my AMVs anyone has ever seen used DVDs though I didn't start ripping until later.
005) Used VCRS for pre-production & post-production
Yes.
006) Know that AG-1980 was the bomb
I was never really into the whole 2vcr scene and besides, I'd have been using odd multisystem models to handle both PAL and NTSC. My first amv *was* on a Panasonic though.
007) Bought dub VHS just so you could get a small piece footage for that various video
I bought dub VHS because in England that's pretty much all you could get unless you were buying Akira, GITS or BGC.
008) Believed at one time that there were too many Ranma videos and that this problem would never go away
Yes
009) Desire to ban weird al songs from conventions
Not into the early convention scene, I did start avoiding Weird Al amvs in my early downloading days.
010) What's the password to hawaii?
Marginally before my time. Waldo I do remember, though.
011) You dowloaded from Mdenny
See 10.
012) Ability to provide better tech support for a Pinnacle DC10 or DC30 than the Pinnacle support line.
Heh god yes. How much hassle did I have with the fucking DC30 drivers during AccelaNation and Monkey Wrench? It didn't help that they only had win9x support and I'd recently moved to win2k so I had to dual boot... but then win9x didn't support NTFS and had a lot max filesize on Fat32 so I had to use split capturing in virtualdub.... GAH.
013) You know that Eat it to Grave of the Fireflies was DQ'd for a reason superceding issues of what is considered wrong.
Vaguely.
014) Feel it is your duty to tell someone if a video sucks.
Actually I feel it's my duty to tell someone if a video rocks. Videos that suck are aplenty... if someone makes something I really like the you bet I want to make sure they know.
015) Thought the Anime Music Video Creators' Webring was neato.
Heh, actually I thought it was pretty lame :P
016) You knew that a convention would contain a Brad Demoss entry before the convention even existed.
It's only recently when that's true, too.
017) You had to worry about Macrovision at some point.
Ugh. Yes.
018) Remember the Beautiful People to Apocalypse Zero (aka Kakugo no Susume before it was released in USA) incident at A-kon.
Only heard about it later.
019) If you used windows you encoded a video with Indeo compression.
Only until I tested out other codecs and discovered this cool thing called DivX 3.11 ;)
020) You remember Kevin Caldwell actually posted occasionally!
*Just* before my time. His leaving on the mailing list was pretty much the same time I made my first public amv.
021) Believe the old trolling threads were great flamefests and these young whipper snappers and their "contest drama" can't hold a candle to them.
There were some epic moments. The main thing I remember about them was the way they were one longass page and how you knew when the shit was going down because people were making new threads to try and push the flamewar off the first page of the forum (as the forum didn't sort by latest post). As for great flamefests? I dunno, it's not that much different now. All the best stuff was in the circle of hell known as .org v2 Off Topic forums. Especially in the summer vacation. Jesus.

I actually have the sql tables for the old forum around here somewhere, if anyone wants to look at any old threads. Anneke flaming ErMaC was always fun, as was that one where some girl tried to justify that girls can't make amvs because, according to the Bible, they have no soul and that the only reason EK could was because "bigbigtruck" made us think of Optimus Prime and therefore we were duped into thinking her amvs were good. Classic.

I *so* cannot wait to see a Firefly vid from you. Interesting to read about anime fandom and its past. Those flamewars sure sound crazy.
