Looking back at old old amv.org forum threads...

Quote by me, from the org's old Phorum, over 5 years ago now? It's interesting looking at all these old forum posts (I downloaded some of it from the org database when I was an admin). I'm hoping to collect some of the more interesting bits for people to read for nostalgia.

Here's something - in the first 20 posts the topic of non-anime videos in the database was raised...

"I wonder... will Music Videos that uses non anime as its source footage be allowed?

I know Lee Thompson made a Clue and a ST:TNG music video, and Brad DeMoss has made a Bruce Campbell music video.

I have also seen alot of playstation game music videos (like FF series).

I ask because I have a Diablo 2/Warcraft III music video (DMV as I call it) and well... wonder if it would qualify." (unknown org user, it's hard to tell from the db table)

I have no objections to it. I will add a "non-anime" category and that should cover it. Sound good?

I agree. I would like to see stuff that the anime music video creators have put together other than anime music videos as well. I think things will be fine but if it gets out of hand, the links can be deleted and the category removed.

That was certainly a decision that influenced the way the amv community developed. It's impossible to say whether it was a good or bad decision, though I do think it has helped the org stay litigation-free, not having Hollywood and TV broadcasters on its back. *sigh* such innocent days.
