Video day 4 - 2/3rds done.
Apr. 18th, 2003 02:56 pmWell, the video is really developing now and I'm starting to take big gambles on how this will all fit together.
I've done 3 minutes of the video with 1 min 20 seconds remaining. At the current rate I should be done by sunday as planned. I've been tweaking along the way so there shouldn't be too many changes but things are starting to have an even greater contrast to the music than they were earlier on... although it's just a reinterpretation, in my opinion.
SPOILERS AGAIN...
The music video is going to be called Memories of Love and Conflict - and I'm really trying to push this concept. I've gone through the video adding the image of the ball of light Shuji holds between his hands and suggesting that all of the things you see in the video are, you guessed it, memories of love or memories of conflict. This is not just the problems with the relationship but the war that's going on.
The later section of the video starts bringing in the war as a major element. Now, imagine the oddness of the dark scenes earlier on and you'll have an idea of how difficult juggling this concept is. The song really isn't about war at all, but I'm stretching the idea of the last goodbye to refer to the bigger picture. It's easy in the numerous instrumental sections - in the verses the contrast is much more stark.
The reason for all this war being added is pretty simple, though. There really isn't enough dynamic relationship footage to do the whole video, and given the show it would be overly reductive to ignore the bigger picture. I said to Hsien before I started editing that I wanted to add a little epicness to it... but this is my gamble.
It's taking some tweaking but I think I can wing it. If it works it should be a pretty good video, I think.
I don't think I'll be releasing any more betas... but I'm not sure. The feedback was very very useful indeed but I think the best thing to do now that I've chosen the route for the video is to just complete it and see what people think of the finished product.
Wish me luck :)
