DVD Writer Experiments
Jun. 12th, 2003 03:12 pmOK, so I got me a new NEC ND-1300A DVD writer on the assumption that if DVD+R was ever going to become cheaper than -R then it would be nice to be able to pick and chose my media.
Yes, I know that this drive at the moment has a limited amount of useable brands (it says no to PRINCO) but most website reviews found it to be a reasonable multiformat writer for the price.
My tests weren't 100% perfect....
Ritek G04 4x media
- burning at 4x, DVD writes in 15mins but data after the 4gig mark has errors
- burning at 2x, fewer errors but still present
Verbatim 2x media
- burning at 2x, no errors everything good.
So, it seems that if I want the advantage of 4x (at least with this media and this firmware) I can't really burn more than 4 gig on a dvd. This means that for my amv DVD I'm either going to have to keep the image below 4 gig or use flashy 2x media.
