I did a little more preparatory work for my DDR video today.

I've given up on the cell shader look - it's going to be too complicated with the software I have. So, it's classic 3d render.

Making my first ever textures today... damn, they're tricky. Poser isn't all that great for texture support at the best of times but I think the thing which is causing my brain to melt is adjusting a 2d image so it looks right when wrapped over a 3d model.

texturestart (58k image)

Only a couple of details have been added to the plug suit but most things need compensating for warping. It's very very rough at the moment, just to get an idea of the curves I'll need in order to start the finer detail.

I think she looks ok - but I am going to have to mess with the model to fix some neck issues. Poser is great for character animation but its ability to port models from other software is limited. You can do it but you need more modelling experience than I have myself. I don't think I have the skills to make the model perfect - so I'll just make it look as convincing as I can. I'm no Kwasek - I'm just bumbling along trying to make this crap work :)

I'm expecting the model to be totally complete in the next few days and then I'll start putting the "game" footage together. Luckily poser 5 has the ability to put video on objects as a texture so once I have the game footage made, I can then practically make the whole final video render in Poser with no need for any other programs.

You captured the shape of her face really well. Character modeling is tough stuff, that's pretty impressive if you haven't been doing it for long.

Hmm

She's not skinny enough.

Actually the aspect of the image is a little off, but yeah I do need to make her slightly thinner - but that's very easy to do.

Wow Ian that looks GREAT!

/me wonders what exactly you're doing for your video :)

BTW if you need better 3D support 3DSMAX and Lightwave are pretty good programs. My friend and I used those for a 3D video we made...wow...u just made me realize I did a music video like 5 years ago (as opposed to a year ago). It was basically this concert within the CS department called "Sounds and Visions" where you take a song from the "sound" special interest group (SIGSound) and make graphics (we were in SIGGraph).
