"FLCL-ing her nipples"?

So... of all the model molding features of Poser 5, guess which part of model anatomy has the most options?
Breasts.
Now, I may sound cyncial here but something tells me that Curious Labs are aiming for a market I don't even want to consider.
Want more proof? You know what has the second most option? Female genitalia. Yes, you can adjust the size of the clitoris, lips etc.... Or thankfully you can click "hide genitalia". Ugh.
Admittedly I have found it useful to tweak Asuka's breasts to get the the right size and shape, and the option to flatten her nipples so they dont protrude the plugsuit quite so much is handy... my objection is the failure to add such options elsewhere.
Can I alter toe nails? No. Fingernails - yes but only to make them bigger.
...
(ok there's hair options too but I think you get the point)
The model is looking good now. I need to add the bulges around her wrists and make her hands and feet look gloved and booted respectively.
She's much thinner than yesterday too as yesterday she was the standard female model proportions. If you are interested in how my Asuka (which looks pretty accurate now) shapes up to a regular woman it's as follows:
Abdomen - 65% width(!), 75% depth
Chest - 95% width, 85% depth
Hips - 90% width, 75% depth, 105% length
Arms - 105% length
Legs - 110% length, 90% depth
...and her breasts are slightly larger, but mainly to compensate for the reduction in overall chest depth.
Breasts.

I hadn't investigated (mainly because I hadn't used any male models) but it also looks like the male modelling has lots of options (though not as many as for breasts). You have length, girth, erection, scrotum swing (I'm not kidding)....
In all honesty, the product doesn't exactly *emphasise* these things. It's main features are the effortless model manipulation and the new realistic hair modelling. It's also pretty easy to export to other programs (it's just importing which is the often tricky thing to get right) which means it's fairly good for just getting the basic structure for a model and then working on that positioned model. That's very useful for still 3d shots and I know a few 3d artists who will set up a model in Poser in a particular pose, export and then work from that base.
But yeah, I can't deny that I'm 100% cheating my pants off with this video. Asuka's head was premade, and the author will get full credit. The body is a standard female body from poser, slightly altered. The only things which will be mine on the model are the textures and minor manipulations and tweaks.... but this isn't supposed to be uber serious 3d, it's video fun :)

Date: 2003-05-04 04:19 pm (UTC)I'm not saying I could or couldn't do it, I honestly don't know. Most of the problems I've had so far are just me fighting with the limitations of Poser.
I'm not really having much of a difficulty lining up the textures either - but I'm doing the plugsuit mainly as a texture and thinking of how to draw something in 2d that will look like a smooth curve that goes around a 3d character's shoulder, for example, is a long process of trial and error. I'm currently battling with something that should be circular that ends up being anything BUT circular when wrapped over the model.
I think I'm also going to have to storyboard the amv for the very first time, which will be interesting :)

Date: 2003-05-04 04:33 pm (UTC)Storyboarding? I do that for almost ALL my videos :-P. Nothing wrong with it :). My last video wasn't storyboarded and it shows. Then again I didn't have any motivations at all and it was just a "challenge" to myself. I don't think I'm ever going to do that again. Then again everyone's different...me I need to "script" my vids and have the vast majority of it already planned (scene-wise). I think this is gonna show come Iron Chef time :-P

Date: 2003-05-04 05:02 pm (UTC)Curiously, what exactly are you working on? Is it for the DDR Project? No offense to whoever did the Stompin' to My Beat, but I didn't like that video that much. It was technically astounding, but not very "DDR-ish" or anime.
