OK, does anyone know anything about cheap digital cameras? When I say cheap I mean like $150 or less.

Are digital cameras that cheap actually worth bothering with? I'd like some sort of digital camera for random stuff - mainly posting on websites etc. If anyone had bought a cheap one and had good results, please post here and let me know the model and how much it was.

Thanks all ^^

I think a $150.00 camera will be fine. I guess I'm using a bad example, but I bought a $250.00 camera over 3 years ago and am still satisfied with the results. With the general downward trend on tech items, I say you can get a good one for around $150.00. However, what types of specs are you looking for. Mine was a 2.1 megapixel (a lot back then) with 4x Digital Zoom and 2x Optical. I *think* I can get images of around 1280x1024 at max quality (less shots per card since they take up more space). In all honesty, I think that amount of quality and detail is sufficient.

Hell, you can zoom in on people's hair and see some detail :-P

I recently picked up a Nikon Coolpix 2000 for $200. Several Nikon cameras also have a $50 mail in rebate going on so mine will be $150 after the rebate. It has 2.1MP, 3x optical zoom (rare in sub $200 camera), uses standard AA batteries so you can use rechargables, connects directly with a USB cable (included) so you don't need to buy a media reader, and uses CompactFlash which is relatively cheap. It came with a 16MB card which is good enough for 16 pictures at highest quality and highest resolution (1632x1224) or 80 pictures at the highest quality but lowest resolution (640x480). I got it specifically for conventions and random events with the idea of web posting and emails only.

You can check out some rough sample pics at:

I've only had the camera out and in use a few times so give me a break =P Make sure you budget for accessories like rechargable batteries (NiMH) and a charger, a camera case, and a larger memory card.
