Watched the rest of the shorts on the Grasshoppa! DVD. The another short (except Anno's which I mentioned before) which really stood out was this one called Comedy by Kazuto Nakazawa and Studio 4C. Although it says it's part 3 of a series, I think the episodes must be standalone works.
Anyway, Comedy is really interesting. Imagine a short anime that somehow captures the gothic, dark and quirky parts of Sleepy Hollow. I think that's the closest description I can give of it. It's peculiar but entertaining and very pretty. Lots of style.
Of the other shorts, I think the one I enjoyed most was Frog River, another live action short. I need to see the first two episodes but there were some great characters.
As they are pretty reasonably priced, I think I may well get volumes 1 and 2 in the future.
P.S. My Kiss DP450 now plays divx3 files. Awesomeness.

or you can use this program to change the FOURCC from xvid to DIVX:
