/me went on insane shopping spree today and bought.

trousers x 1
short sleeved shirts x 4
t-shirt for printing stuff on x1
underwear x infinity
digital camera x 1

:)

Still have more shopping to do before Thursday, including

new pair of Vans x 1
socks x lots
bottle of red wine x 12
fancy chocolate for jbone x 1

I also need to get hold of some 25cd spindle casings to transfer saikano dvd rips to people.

[livejournal.com profile] jescaflowne will you be at Jacon? If so, do you want any britpop/rock that is tricky to get in the states? I know you're a big fan, so I figured I ask.

Any other UK-specific requests? I know people will be wanting me to bring some Absinthe but I'm a little uncertain about it this time, mainly because of the way I'll have to go through customs upon my first entry point. Any unnecessary delay would have me stuck in Washington. So, I'll mainly be bringing wine for myself.

For us silly Americans who only know vans from the large, obnoxious vehicles that believe they have the right of way NO MATTER WHAT, what are "Vans?" ^_^

And, actually, if you can get me 2 bars of chocolate, it'd make my sister very happy... if it's no trouble. ^_^

...12 bottles of wine?

Vans are the same in the US as they are in the UK - i.e. Skaterpunk footwear :)

2 bars is not a problem, I'll be getting some for myself too :)

12 bottles is the minimum amount I can get from a wine warehouse up the road. It gets drunk pretty fast, though ^^;;

"It's unpleasantly like being drunk."
"What's so unpleasant about being drunk?"
"You ask a glass of water."

<end geeky quote>

Er, Vans are just as common in the US as in England.

My brother wore Vans in high school. They're similar to Converse and Etnies.

They tell me that reduced-wormwood absinthe like they make now is actually legal in the US. Also, if your trip is like my trip, customs aren't the ones you have to worry about -- it's the TSA.

Hmm... don't know about the legality of Absinthe in the US....but if I don't know then there's a good chance the customs people won't be sure either...

My instinct says "don't risk it."

Well, last year when I did research into it I discovered the following:

Wormwood drink cannot be produced in the USA due to an act limiting uses of certain food additives.

It is not strictly illegal to import it but if it seems to be for human consumption then customs have the right to take it away from you but it's not, in itself, an illegal substance.

This was the basis of my confidence in taking it to AWA - I was reliably informed that if I was stopped the worst that would happen is it would be taken off me and I would be told not to do it again. However, if that happens when I go to florida I wont have much time to get back on the plane which has to stop briefly in washington where I have to clear customs.

So, I'm not taking absinthe to Jacon, if anyone wants it I can point to websites where they can order it themselves.

I will, however, be taking a couple of very fine bottles of wine and a bottle of Talisker. Can't say much fairer than that :)

Damn man, I didn't know you were into absinthe. I'm really interested in trying some. If you get a chance throw me those links to the websites so I can order some.

Oh yeah, and give me hints on how I can drink this stuff and NOT DIE.

Music request

Ooh, if you could find/procure the Drugstore albums White Magic for Lovers, Songs for the Jetset, and/or Collector No. 1, that'd be great. =D
