Jacon Approaching

Fuck me Jacon is so soon. I've got lots and lots to do.
Shopping part two happened today.
smoovygee - I picked up White Magic for Lovers and Collector 1 for you but the other album is out of stock everywhere.
I still need to get a whole bunch of stuff tomorrow. Tonight is going to be cd burning night. I have 75 cds to burn... eeek. The main problem though is that I dont have anything I can put them in, so I'll have to fashion something to hold them.
kusoyaro and
akimbo, you might want to bring spindles or something to put the cds (25 in total) into.
As for the amv contest, I don't really mind - I entered for fun... neither of my videos are likely to get anything given the competition. I'm looking forward to the panel.
I need to work out my sleep tactics to maximise awakeness in florida. I dont work well on too much sleep so I might have a late night weds and sleep on the flight over... but often that's easier said than done.
Anyone have any good sleeping on flights tips?

Knock back a few, maybe? I hate doing that though, because the sleep is restless, and for some reason, it causes head-splitting headaches during landing. And it doesn't always work...

Date: 2003-05-27 05:44 pm (UTC)Combine. Take a pair of earplugs, as suggested. You'll want to get foam and not wax. (And when you get to America, buy better foam ones -- serious.) Find a radio channel you like, and put the headphones on with the earplugs in. (If you have good noise cancelling outer phones, bring them and use them; the major US airlines use a standard jack now.) This will cancel most of the noise, apart from the stewardess waking you for food and drink.
Do not drink. At least one airline (American) now charges for booze anyhow, so no big whoop. Do bring the Nyquil, 1.5-2L water (I suggest two Evian Sport bottles; these are reusable and very breastlike) and two Nurofen Plus. While at the airport, make sure to down at least .5L of liquid shortly before the flight. Juice is good. Conserve your water until after the first snack and meal volley; you will be provided with drinks. Ask for water on one drink and juice or noncaff'd soda on the meal drink (you'll usually get a small bottle of water with meal), then water for the coffee/tea volley.
By the time you've had the first round of flight-provided drinks, you'll be hydrated enough to make it through the first couple of hours. Take one of your Nurofen, engage in soundblock, and go to sleep. Your body, if it is at all reliable, will wake you to pee in a couple of hours -- this is also when you should get up to stretch and decompress your legs. Have one of your water bottles, then go back to sleep. Really, as much water as you can stand from that bottle, no shit.
Allow yourself to be wakened by the stewardesses if they come by with water/drinks during this time, also. (I'm really heebie, so this isn't hard for me.)
You should be woken up by your need to pee and the endflight snack-meal-thing; take as much fluid as they'll give you, and pee twice if they'll let you.
Get down the rest of your water before the flight lands; you should have plenty of time to do this in between the post-meal pee and the landing, and still get an extra nap in. I usually aim to finish the bottle by the initial descent, but usually have to do it all right before INS.
Basically, don't expect to sleep through the flight, but through judicious application of water, you should be able to reach a state where you get substantial naps in between pee breaks, waking your body naturally enough to shake out the circulation. The Nurofen Plus just makes it easier to get to sleep in the first place.
I also recommend bringing your own fruit, a couple bags of crisps, and some mints or gum.

Date: 2003-05-27 01:49 pm (UTC)I always found sleeping on the flight to Europe to be easy since it's at night and everyone is quiet. Flying to America can be a nightmare because it's bright outside, those flights tend to have more kids on them, and they are playing movies and TV shows during the entire flight. Personally I think Rozard has the best suggestion of them all. Just take a bottle of water with you, too.
I'm also glad to see Rozard is freely giving away car rides for me =P Seriously, if y'all are running late or if something happens with the rental let me know. I'll be in town with my car by 5:00 at the latest. Rozard has my cell phone number. I think for his enthusiasm I'll get a chauffeur cap for Rozard to wear and make him hold white signs with everyone's names on them at the airport.
